SMLE NO1 MkIII * Major components.

The rifle used as the basis for these photographs is an Australian SMLE No1 MkIII* manufactured by the Lithgow plant in 1941. The rifle was "Factory Thorough Repaired" at Lithgow in 1954 and was later converted to a drill purpose rifle by cutting the tip off the firing pin and removing the extractor. These photographs were taken during disassembly and cleaning of the rifle.  The 1907 Pattern bayonet shown with the rifle was manufactured in 1918 by Sanderson.
